SC grants bail to TMC’s Saket Gokhale in Gujarat crowdfunding misappropriation case
April 18, 2023
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Trinamool Congress spokesperson Saket Gokhale in connection with the alleged misappropriation of funds collected through a crowdfunding platform. The court noted that a chargesheet in the case had already been filed by the Gujarat Police. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and Vikram Nath granted him relief.
Gokhale was arrested by the Ahmedabad cyber crime branch from Delhi on December 30, 2022, and is facing charges under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery) and others. He moved the SC to challenge an order passed by the Gujarat HC, which had refused to grant him bail. While rejecting his plea, the HC had said, ‘It appears that there are serious allegations against the applicant… It appears that funding raised for the welfare of the people was utilized by the applicant for his personal expenses.’ DeshGujarat
