Gujarat govt signs MOUs with 15 companies for ₹2000 cr investment in biotechnology sector

Gandhinagar: 15 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) for new investments worth ₹2000 crore in the biotechnology sector in Gujarat were signed here today, in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, said the State government.

About three thousand jobs will be created as a result of these MOUs, which were signed by 13 companies from Gujarat and one each from Maharashtra and Delhi. Science Technology Secretary Vijay Nehra signed these MOUs on behalf of the State Government.

The companies that signed the MOUs with the state government for Rs. 1,000 crore investments include Maharashtra’s Ambio Limited and New Delhi’s BioTrends India Pvt Ltd, along with local industrial units in Gujarat, such as Zydus Lifesciences, Concord Biotech, Hester Biosciences Ltd. Additionally, a new age domestic technology player, Meteoric Bio-Pharmaceutical Pvt. Ltd., has committed investments of about Rs. 500 crores, along with Endoc Biotech Pvt. Ltd., Gujarat Themis Biosyn Ltd., Steviatech Life Pvt. Ltd., Celexis Biosciences Pvt. Ltd., Kaniva Bioscience Pvt. Ltd., and other industrial units.

The MOUs mainly focuse on investments in the fermentation-based APIS and biofertilizers sector, as well as new areas such as precision fermentation and animal tissue cultivation. These industries will commence operations in the coming days in various districts of the state, ranging from Kutch and Devbhumi Dwarka to Vapi-Valsad.

The state government has commissioned Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission (GSBTM) as the nodal agency. Additionally, the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Center (GBRC) and Savli Technology and Business Incubator (STBI) near Vadodara, along with Gujarat Biotechnology University at Gift City, are also functional in attempt to give boost to this sector in the state.
