5 drown in Vadodara while immersing Dashama idol in Mahi river

Vadodara: Five youths drowned in the Mahi River here today while immersing Dashama idol. Two of them, including a home guard jawan, drowned in the Singharot Mahi river, while the other three youths from Ranchodpura village drowned near Kanoda village in Savli taluka. The Vadodara Fire Brigade responded to the incident and found the dead bodies of two youths, with the search for the remaining three still ongoing.

After the Dashama Pooja at Prajnesh Machi’s house in Vadodara’s Kishanwadi area, he and his friend Sagar Kuri, aged 23 and 24 respectively, went to immerse the idol in the Singharot Mahi river. However, they were overwhelmed by the strong current which caused them to drown. The Vadodara Fire Brigade has only found one body so far. Family members blamed the lack of facilities and the absence of deployed fire brigade teams at Singharot, which might have saved the youths.

In another incident, three youths from Ranchodpura village in Kanoda drowned while immersing the Dashama idol in the Mahi river. They went missing one after another while trying to save each other. The victims were identified as Sanjay Poonambhai Gohil (age 32), Kaushik Arvindbhai Gohil (age 20), and Vishal Ratilal Gohil (age 15). The village and the families were devastated by the tragedy. The Vadodara Fire Brigade and the army were informed, and after extensive search efforts, Sanjay Gohil’s body was found. The operation to find the others is still ongoing. DeshGujarat.
