Surat: Ahead of scheduled vacation from 9th November, as many as 800 small and medium scale units of diamonds in Surat have declared Diwali vacation from 29 October itself. Some diamond units have put up notices that while Diwali vacation starts from 29 October, the date of reopening after vacation is yet not fixed and the artisans shall be conveyed the reopening date over phone calls.

In a two-page letter jointly written by Gems & Jewelry Export Promotion Council’s chairman Vipul Shah, Surat Diamond Bourse’s chairman Vallabhbhai Lakhani, Bharat Diamond Bourse’s president Anup Mehta and Mumbai Diamond Merchants Association’s president Bharat Shah and Surat Diamond Association’s president Jagdish Khunt, it is informed that diamond units should not buy rough for two months.
