Work begins for construction of new Hospital and Educational blocks at SMIMER in Surat

Surat: The construction work of the new Hospital (ED-1) Block and Education (ED-2) Block under the SMIMER Master Plan began on Sunday. The foundation stone was laid for this Rs. 310 crore project by Kanubhai Desai, Minister of Finance, Power, and Petrochemicals, Government of Gujarat.
The Hospital Block (ED-1) will feature a basement + ground + 9-floor construction, basement parking for 53 cars and 77 two-wheelers, a total of 03 modular operation theatres, super specialty departments (nephrology, neurology, gastroenterology, and interventional radiology), ICU, MDR, RICU, and MICU (total 56 beds). Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Psychiatry, Skin and DVL, Examination, Epidemic, SARI, and Superspecialty Departments wards – in total over 600 beds. Emergency and Casualty, Emergency Seb, Cath Lab, ECG Lab, TMT Services, Blood Bank, and dialysis (10 beds) facilities will also be provided. There will be four single and four twin-sharing special rooms equipped with advanced facilities.
The Educational Block (ED-2) will be a basement, ground, and 10-story construction with basement parking for 66 cars and 20 two-wheelers. It will have Psychiatry OPD, RNTCP OPD, General Medicine OPD, ART Centre, Super Specialty Departments (Neurology, Interventional Radiology, Nephrology, and Gastroenterology) OPD, FMT, PSM, PMR, General Medicine, Psychiatry, Respiratory Cadence, Skin DVL, Psychiatry, Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, and the Public Information Department’s office.
04 lecture theatres equipped with modern facilities having a seating capacity of 312 students, small group teaching, a centralized laboratory, a genome sequencing lab, and a hall that will be part of the building.
Upon completion of this project, a new hospital with approximately 600 beds will be operational at SMIMER, providing super specialty services. This development aims to make affordable and high-quality treatment accessible to all sections of the city’s population.
