Out on bail, Jaysukh Patel not allowed to enter Morbi
March 27, 2024
Morbi: Jaysukh Patel, the Oreva Group Director and the main accused in the Morbi Bridge collapse case of 2022, was granted bail last week. However, Patel has been prohibited from entering the Morbi district except for court appearances. These conditions have been implemented by the trial court in Morbi, in accordance with the bail granted by the Supreme Court.
Principal District Judge PC Joshi set seven conditions for Patel’s bail. These include furnishing a bond of Rs one lakh and surrendering his passport within a week. Patel is prohibited from leaving the country without court permission and is instructed not to intimidate or influence witnesses. Moreover, Patel must attend every court hearing.
Additionally, the court required Patel to provide proof of his address and to promptly update it in case of any change in residence.
The British-era bridge built over the Machchhu River in Morbi collapsed on October 30th, 2022, resulting in the deaths of 135 people. Oreva was the company responsible for managing and painting the bridge. Patel had opened the refurbished bridge to the public without obtaining a structural integrity report. DeshGujarat
