Surat: Six children sustained injuries when a school van overturned on the Kim-Olpad highway in Surat. The incident occurred early this morning as the van was en route to school. The driver lost control of the school van while attempting to avoid a school bus coming from the opposite direction.
Nine children were aboard the van at the time of the accident. Six of the children were immediately rushed to the hospital for their injuries. CCTV footage capturing the incident was retrieved by the Kim Police. Police have begun probe in the incident using the CCTV footage, and the driver has been detained for interrogation.
Praful Pansheriya, Minister of State (Parliamentary Affairs, Primary, Secondary and Adult Education, Higher Education) commented on this incident during an interview. He said, “There were around 9 children in the van; 6 of these children suffered minor injuries. I urge parents that when you hire private vans, there should be a meeting of the owner, driver and all parents. A conversation should also be done with the children. If a driver commits a mistake and indulges in speedy driving, what the child tells parents should be taken seriously. A complaint of such a van driver should be made to the Police. The Police are taking strict action into today’s incident.”
