July 09, 2024
Mehsana: The district food department conducted an investigation at D-Mart after a customer found fungus in a tub of Milky Mist curd purchased from the store. Samples of other Milky Mist products, including ghee, yogurt, butter, and cheese, were collected during the inspection, along with a sample of the contaminated curd reported by the aggrieved customer.
Kartik Pujara, a resident of Swatinagar Society on TB Road, had purchased a 1 kg tub of Milky Mist curd from D-Mart. Upon opening the curd for consumption, fungus was found inside. When Kartik contacted D-Mart, he allegedly received a rude response from employees, with the store manager stating that they do not inspect products internally before sale.
Expressing concern, Kartik stated to the media, “We were sold the curd, which was stale, and my daughter was about to consume the fungus-laden product. Who would have been responsible if something had happened due to food contamination?”
Following Kartik’s written complaint to the food inspector, the department swung into action, collecting samples of all Milky Mist products being sold at D-Mart, including other batches of yogurt related to the complaint. DeshGujarat
