Nadiad man held for sharing old foreign video as Gujarat’s and spreading misinformation

Ahmedabad: The crime branch today arrested a Twitter user for sharing an old video from a foreign country, falsely claiming it to be from Gujarat to tarnish the state’s image.

The police have apprehended Prahaladbhai Dalwadi, who hails from Nadiad. The accused had shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) showing vehicles moving on a road riddled with potholes. The video was widely circulated on social media on Sunday, falsely claiming to depict the condition of roads in Gujarat.

It was later revealed that the video was from 2020 and originated from China. Dalwadi had downloaded the video from another source and uploaded it to his Twitter account allegedly with the intention of tarnishing Gujarat’s image and spreading discontent among the public.

The police action followed after the matter came to the attention of MoS Home Harsh Sanghavi, who had directed legal action against those tarnishing Gujarat’s image. Prahalad Dalwadi has been arrested, and further action is being taken.

The video was extensively shared by several social media users supporting the Congress party, reaching millions and spreading misinformation to damage Gujarat’s image. Some journalists also shared the video. However, vigilant netizens were quick to counter and debunk this false narrative. DeshGujarat
