Around 100 unregistered migrant workers found during SOG drive in Soni Bazar, Rajkot

Rajkot: The Special Operations Group of the police found around 100 migrant laborers from Bengal working in the Soni market of the city during a checking drive today.

ACP Bharat Basia of Rajkot City Crime was also part of the drive. As unregistered migrant laborers were found, crime of violations of the public notification were registered against the traders.

ACP Bharat Basia emphasized the importance of getting all migrant workers registered in the Citizen Portal, as mandated by the Police Commissioner’s notification. “The Rajkot city SOG team conducted this checking drive to enforce the notification, and action will be taken against traders who have not registered their artisans with the police for violating the declaration,” he said.

Basia noted that more than 100 cases were identified during this drive. There have been incidents where workers absconded with traders’ gold. The ACP requested traders to register their workers in the Citizen Portal to prevent such incidents. The Rajkot SOG team will continue its checking drive, and offenses for violating the notification will be registered. It is estimated that over 90,000 Bengali artisans work in the Soni market.
