In Photos: September 2014 Vadodara floods when Vishwamitri River reached 34 ft level

Vadodara: In the second week of September in the year 2014, Vishwamitri river’s water level in Vadodara had touched 34 ft mark and stayed at that level for hours. Various areas of Vadodara were flooded by Vishwamitri waters. Vishwamitri had started affecting the life and routine in Vadodara after the level went up beyond 29 ft that year.

To given an idea, Sama – Savli road was closed for traffic ahead of 30 ft level. The people from Siddharth bungalow and Ganeshnagar were rescued.  Sayaji garden was declared shut before 29 ft level was touched. The affected areas were Ajwa road, Vaghodia road, Fatehganj, Kalali, Sama, Kapurai, Nizampura, Kabrastan, Pensionpura, Kalyannagar. 20 boats were deployed. 6 NDRF teams were sent for rescue operation in Vaghodiya where Pipalia village talav was overflowing.  The effect stayed for prolonged period due to full moon day (poonam) and related high-tide in the sea due to which Vishwamitri water couldn’t travel to sea via Dhadhar river in normal speed. Also the river Dhadhar was full of water due to release of water from Dev dam.  Lot of strayed crocodiles were spotted and captured from various areas of Vadodara including Kamatibaug and Lalbaug that year during and after flood.

While Vishwamitri is again at 29 ft level this afternoon and the level is steadily rising through last 24 hours, here are the photographs of Vadodara under flood in the year 2014.
