Gandhinagar: Interns and Junior doctors serving in the public hospitals have ended their much-cricitized and “insensitive” strike after meeting with the State Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel here today evening.

Disatisfied with the hike in their stipends declared by the State government last week, the medical students serving in public hospitals had gone on strike couple of days ago, causing great difficulties for poor and needy patients at the time when the parts of the State are struggling against very heavy rains and flood like situation. This was their second strike in a month period. A few days ago only they had been on strike for days protesting the rape and murder incident in West Bengal.

After a meeting with the State Chief Minister today evening, the interns and junior doctors have withdrawn their strike. It is understood that the State government has assured them that the government would think about consiering their demand of double hike in stipend.

The State government in a note relesaed to media stated: ‘Following the meeting of the interns and junior doctors of the state with Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, the two-day medical strike in the state has come to an end. A late evening meeting of these agitating doctors was held with the Chief Minister in Gandhinagar. Considering the positive attitude of the Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the wider public health care interest for the treatment of the needy citizens of the state, the doctors have assured the Chief Minister of ending the agitation and withdrawing the strike and restoring their services.’ DeshGujarat
