Ahmedabad civic body to construct 7 iconic roads for Rs. 405 crore

Ahmedabad: Seven key roads in the city are set to become iconic roads, with the project by the city civic body estimated to cost around Rs 405 crore. The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) plans to revamp 20.6 km of key road sections, including the main Ashram Road, into “iconic roads.” These upgrades will make the roads wider and, with an average cost of Rs 19.66 crore per kilometre, it will be the most expensive project to date.

The road from Kanyug Cross Road via Shyamal Cross Road to SG Highway will be developed with an Olympic theme, featuring various models representing the Olympics. Ashram Road, from Paldi to Wadaj, will be the longest of these iconic roads, measuring over 5 km, and will be developed on the theme of Gandhi Ashram.

Unlike any other RCC and white-topped roads, the iconic roads will include on-street parking with applicable fees. These roads will have three lanes, central medians, wide footpaths, service roads, theme-based landscaping, waste management systems, and various amenities such as gazebos, benches, children’s play areas, and sculptures.

Details of the roads to be turned into iconic roads:

Road Name Length (in Meters) Width (in Meters)
