Red alert in parts of Gujarat for 24 hrs; IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy rains until Sept 28

Surat: The monsoon was vigorous over the Saurashtra and Kutch regions of the state, and South Gujarat also received heavy to extremely heavy rains during the last 24 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has further issued a red alert for South Gujarat districts for the next 24 hours, along with an orange alert for some other regions.

According to the IMD bulletin, Narmada, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, and the areas of Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli are on red alert for the next 24 hours due to the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rains in some places, with isolated extremely heavy falls in other areas.

Meanwhile, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu are on orange alert.

A yellow warning for heavy rain has been issued for Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar, and in the districts of Saurashtra, including Surendranagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, and Botad.

On September 28th, a yellow warning for heavy rain has been issued for Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, and in the areas of Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, as well as the Saurashtra districts of Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu.

From the 29th of September to the 3rd of October, only light to moderate rain is predicted in some parts of Gujarat.

SYNOPTIC SITUATION:

  • The line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon continues to pass through Firozpur, Sirsa, Churu, Ajmer, Mount Abu, Deesa, Surendranagar, Junagadh, and 21°N/70°E.
  • The cyclonic circulation over north Madhya Maharashtra and its neighborhood now lies over southwest Madhya Pradesh and its neighborhood and extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestward with height.
  • A trough runs from South Gujarat to northwest Bihar across the cyclonic circulation over southwest Madhya Pradesh and its neighborhood between 1.5 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level. DeshGujarat
