Surat: In yet another case of “Love Jihad,” a Muslim man has been booked for raping and defrauding a Hindu woman by using a Hindu name. The Rander police have registered a case of rape and fraud against Yusuf Miya Mohammad Mandapwala and his wife, Habiba, both residents of Adajan. The accused allegedly posed as a Hindu, established physical relations with the woman, promised marriage, and forced her to undergo an abortion when she got pregnant. Yusuf’s wife was aware of his scheme and acted as an accomplice.
The case dates back to 2000, when the accused befriended the victim, a college student from Rander, by introducing himself as Kamal Singh, a Hindu name. He frequently met the woman, lured her with promises of marriage, and established sexual relations with her. During their relationship, the woman became pregnant, and Yusuf reportedly forced her to undergo an abortion. Even after the abortion, he continued to exploit her sexually.
In 2024, Yusuf took out a loan in the victim’s name to purchase a scooter and later pressured her to transfer the scooter to his name. When she refused, Yusuf and his wife, Habiba, visited her home, issued threats, and allegedly assaulted her physically.
Following the victim’s complaint, the Rander police registered a case under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 376 (rape), and 506 (criminal intimidation) against Yusuf and Habiba. Police officials have stated that the accused exploited and cheated the victim for an extended period and are further investigating whether the accused had lured other Hindu women using similar tactics.
