December 01, 2024
Mehsana: In a tragic incident, 25-year-old Maheshji Pratapji Thakor, a resident of Baliyasan village in Mehsana taluka, lost his life after his throat was slit by a sharp kite thread while riding a bike with his wife. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 PM on Friday as the couple was crossing the railway overbridge on the highway near Ambaliyasan station en route to Ambaliyasan village.
Fatal Accident
According to witnesses, the kite thread, which was reportedly sharp and lethal, cut through Mahesh’s throat, causing severe injuries. Despite being rushed to a private hospital, Mahesh succumbed to his injuries before he could receive medical treatment.
Police officials reported that Mahesh was the only son of his parents, making the loss even more devastating for the family. His body was sent for postmortem, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the type of kite thread involved.
Police Investigation Underway
Authorities have yet to confirm whether the kite thread was a Chinese-manufactured manjha—a banned type of thread often criticized for its sharpness and durability, which has caused numerous fatalities in recent years. “The origin of the kite thread is under investigation,” police stated, assuring a thorough inquiry into the matter.
Pre-Festival Concerns
The incident has raised concerns ahead of Gujarat’s popular Uttarayan Kite Festival, scheduled for January 14 and 15. Fatalities caused by sharp kite threads are a recurring issue during this festival, prompting repeated calls for stricter enforcement of bans on dangerous kite materials. DeshGujarat
