Bullet Train Project: Over 2 lakh noise barriers installed along 100+ km viaduct

Mumbai: The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) announced on Monday that over 200,000 noise barriers have been installed along the 100+ km stretch of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train route. These barriers are designed to reduce operational noise while preserving the scenic views for passengers, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable journey, the company said.

There are six factories producing pre-cast noise barriers—three in Ahmedabad and one each in Surat, Vadodara, and Anand. These barriers are installed to reduce the noise generated by the train and the civil structure during operations.

The noise barriers are made of concrete panels, each 2 meters high (from rail level) and 1 meter wide, with each panel weighing approximately 830-840 kg. These barriers are designed to reflect and distribute the aerodynamic sound produced by the train, as well as the noise generated by the train’s wheels in contact with the tracks.

The barriers are designed to ensure that they do not block the views for passengers enjoying the train ride. In residential and urban areas, taller barriers of 3 meters will be installed. In addition to the 2-meter concrete panel, the extra 1-meter barrier will be made from translucent polycarbonate material. DeshGujarat
