Congress demands live telecast of Gujarat Assembly sessions

Gandhinagar: Congress party leader in the Gujarat Assembly, Amit Chavda, submitted a written request to Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, urging live broadcasting of assembly proceedings. He pointed out that while proceedings are streamed live in 28 states across the country, Gujarat’s Assembly remains an exception. Following this, he made a presentation in the House.

Chavda urged the Speaker to ensure that all state assembly proceedings are accessible to the public. He emphasized that assembly proceedings are broadcast live in 28 states, and both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are also streamed live.

Addressing the Speaker in the presence of the Chief Minister, Chavda stated that there is nothing to hide and that every member should have access to video recordings of the proceedings. He highlighted that for a long time, members have been requesting that videos of public discussions in the House be made available, but no decision has been taken on this matter yet.

Chavda alleged that the State Government’s Information Department selectively highlights the government’s achievements under the guise of promoting democracy. He claimed that biased, one-sided presentations reach the public, while fair coverage is denied to opposition voices in print, video, and electronic media.

Reiterating the demand, Chavda called for the live broadcasting of assembly proceedings to ensure that the people of Gujarat have access to the true facts. DeshGujarat
