Strict actions against those indulging in violence, damage public property: DGP

Gandhinagar: The In-charge DGP of Gujarat P P Pandey today instructed all the district police chiefs in the state to take strict action against those involved in violence and damaging public property during the ongoing protests against Una dalit atrocity incidents.
A statement issued from the DGP office today said that the DGP has instructed all the police commissioners and superintendents of police to take strict action as per law against the violent protestors and those trying to damage public property. He has also suggested the optimum use of video cameras and still photography to shoot such incidents so that it could later be used as an evidence against the violence doers.
The statement however said that the protests were in a greater proportion peaceful but several cases of violence and damage to public property has been reported.
The DGP has also appealed the protestors to carry out their demonstrations peacefully.
In a video message released later in the evening, Shri Pandey warned those anti-social elements indulging into criminal activity in the course of agitation.
It should be mentioned that dozens of buses are damaged by anti-social elements during the ongoing agitation. Some buses are torched. Public property has been caused damage at many places. For common citizen who wants to travel from one part to another part in the state, especially in Saurashtra region, the journey has become riskier and uncertain due to blockage of traffic and attacks on buses. Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation(GSRTC) has canceled many trips due to which passenger and parcel service has been affected. BRTS bus-stands are also damaged by anti-social elements during the agitation.
Earlier, Additional In-charge Additional DGP (Law & Order) V M Pargi today said that a total of 48 cases against an estimated 3 to 5 thousand violent doers have so far been registered by the police across the state in connection with the ongoing violent protests which has also claimed the life of a policeman in Amreli and seen damage and setting ablaze of several vehicles including over half a dozen government run buses.
