Gujarat govt gives in-principal approval to desalination plant in Jamnagar district

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijau Rupani today gave in-principal approval for setting up a sea water desalination plant in Jodiya in Jamnagar district of Saurashtra region.
Proposed plant will desalinate daily 10 crore liter sea water and supply it to urban and rural areas of Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Rajkot, Porbandar, Morbi and Kutch districts.
The plant is going to be set up in public private partnership model.
Water from this plant will reach Hirapar sump of Morbi district through 55 km long connecting pipeline. From Hirapar sump it will be supplied to targetted areas.
Desalination is completely new approach the government has taken in direction of water availability in addition to Narmada water oriented irrigation and drinking water supply schemes.
