Met issues warning for fishermen owing to squally weather in sea, heavy to very heavy rain warning continues in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: The met department today issued warning for the fishermen in Gujarat asking them not to venture in to the rough sea along the coast of the state in next 24 hours owing to squally weather even as many parts of the state continued to see light to heavy monsoon rains today as well.
The state machinery continued to remain in a state of alert owing to the heavy to very heavy rain warning of the met department.
Manvadar in Junagadh saw over 2 inches of rain today while Dabhoi in Vadodara, parts of Surat, Valsad, Kutch, Gir Somnath, Anand, Dwarka, Porbandar, Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar also witnessed light to moderate rains. Rajkot city, where PM Narendra Modi is to address a rally and participate in an 8 km long road show tomorrow, till the evening was more or less dry. In last 24 hours in all 101 talukas of 30 districts saw rain of which the maximum of around 3 inches was recorded in Umargam taluka of Valsad district. Parts of Rajkot, Amreli, Surat etc also saw two to three inches of rains yesterday.
However, more rain is likely to take place overnight as several places as the warning for next 12 hours is also of heavy to very heavy rains, specially in central, north Guajrat, Saurashtra and Kutch regions. The prediction for the next 24 hours was the same.
As per met data so far 11.56% of the total monsoon rain has taken place in Gujarat. Sowing of crops was also in full swing at many places.
The met bulletin today said that due to low pressure area over Saurashtra, Kutch and adjoining NE Arabian sea, squally weather would likely to prevail along off Gujarat coast during next 24 hours. ‘Fishermen are advised not to venture into open sea during the same period,’ it said.
Temperatures across Gujarat continue to remain below 40°C with Bhuj recording the highest of 38°C. Ahemdabad with partly cloudy weather and some intermittent drizzles saw a maximum of 34.5° C which was over 2°C below normal.
