Gandhinagar: Two NCC cadets Swapnil K Gulale of Surat & Jayduttsinh P Sarvaiya of Bhavnagar have been selected to join Army & Air Force respectively as officers. Swapnil joined through NCC Special Entry Scheme which allows the cadets to report directly for the interview on account of holding a NCC ‘C’ certificate with A/B grading whereas Jayduttsinh cracked AFCAT written exam for becoming an Aeronautical Engineer in Indian Air Force. Both cadets will join for gruelling training at their respective academies at OTA, Chennai and Air Force Academy, Dundigal, Hyderabad.
Swapnil K Gulale, a NCC Cadet of 5 Gujarat Batallion and student of Sir P. T. Sarvajanik College of Science, Surat will pass out as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army after completing 49 weeks of training.
Senior Under Officer Jayduttsinh P Sarvaiya from PDPU got success through Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT). Earlier another NCC cadet from PDPU, Cdt Joshi Achal Dharmendra Kumar had joined Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala for permanent commission in the Executive Branch (General Service) of the Indian Navy.
These boys have credited their success to their training as an NCC cadet, as well as support from college and family. NCC has helped them to develop discipline, character, comradeship and a suitable environment to take up a career in the armed forces.
In recent months NCC cadets provided support in terms of queue management, traffic management, data management, helping senior citizens, food distribution and awareness campaigns for social distancing to state administration during lockdown under Exercise Yogdan. Cadets are actively participating as well as spreading awareness for Atma Nirbhar Bharat, blood donation to supplement dwindling blood supplies in hospitals, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, plantation drive and more recently in Fit India movement. Their efforts have been widely appreciated by authorities as well as public at large.
NCC Directorate Gujarat has five Group HQs located at Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Jamnagar, VV Nagar and Rajkot with 43 units functioning under them at major towns. With the announcement by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh for further expansion of NCC in coastal & border areas, more than 34 educational institutions are likely to benefit. Educational institutions, too, get a boost in their NAAC accreditation by allotment of a NCC unit. In the coastal areas, six Naval NCC units have already been raised at Porbandar, Bhuj, Gandhidham, Veraval, Jamnagar and Navsari.
The selection of these cadets will provide motivation to youth of Gujarat to join Armed Forces.
