Junagadh: A male lion, in age range of 5 to 9 years was hit by a moving goods train in Amreli district of Gujarat earlier today and sustained injuries in legs. It was taken to local rescue centre in Shetrunji wildlife division for treatment and later was sent to Sakkarbaug Zoo in Junagadh for further treatment.
A lion suffered injuries after being hit by a train at Uchaiya village near Rajula town of Amreli district in the morning today. Number of trains carrying heavy containers pass through this controversial rail route which crosses the Shetrunji wildlife division in the last abode of Asiatic lions.
Wildlife lover and Rajya Sabha member Parimal Nathwani in a tweet asked for need to keep conservation as a top priority while planning infrastructure in Lions habitat areas.
It’s heart-wrenching to see the death of lions due to rail accidents. We need to keep their #conservation as a top priority while planning infrastructure in their habitat areas. @moefcc @PrakashJavdekar @PiyushGoyal @RailMinIndia @Ganpatsinhv @WesternRly pic.twitter.com/9vMgn3eTLA
