Gujarat CM reviews Covid situation: 70,000 tests are done daily; 95% vaccinated with first dose, 85% with second dose

Gandhinagar: A high level meeting was chaired by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel here today to review the situation of Covid-19 pandemic in the State.

The Chief Minister said that daily 70,000 tests for covid are done in the State. He said 85 per cent eligible persons have taken two doses in Gujarat while 95 per cent have taken one dose of Covid vaccines.

The meeting also reviewed the arrangements of testing of incoming travelers from abroad and contact tracing.

In a briefing in the evening, Additional Chief Secretary Manoj Agrawal told media persons that so far 23 cases of Omicron variant are recorded in Gujarat. Light symptoms are observed in all these cases such as fever, coughing and cold. In no case, hospitalization has been required, however for extra careful approach, they have been kept in hospitals for treatment so that they don’t infect others. Agrawal said, daily 70,000 to 75,000 tests are being conducted for covid across the State and there’s a plan to increase it even more as per requirement. Agrawal said the State has sufficient number of medicines, beds and other facilities. Total 31,000 passengers who arrived at Ahmedabad and Surat airport from at-risk and other countries have been screened. of them 3,500 were tested through RTPCR. The government will do all arrangement as per the guidance from WHO and ICMR regarding Omicron.

It’s worth noting that daily count of fresh recorded covid cases is rising for last few days and has now crossed 90 mark. Several cases of Omicron variant are also recorded. Yesterday five fresh Omicron variant cases were recorded only in Ahmedabad. All five had returned from countries abroad like Tanzania, Congo, UAE and UK. Spread of Omicron variant of Covid-19 is believed faster than other variants.

Today, a high level meeting is also taking place in national capital New Delhi chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi to review the covid situation. DeshGujarat
