PM to lay the foundation stone for Maruti Suzuki’s 2nd battery plant in Hansalpur

Gandhinagar: PM Narendra Modi on his two-day trip to Gujarat will preside over a function to commemorate 40 years of Maruti Suzuki in India on 28th August. PM will lay the foundation stone of two projects of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), a Subsidiary of Japanese automobile giant Suzuki Motor Corporation from Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.

These two projects include a passenger vehicle manufacturing plant in Sonipat of Haryana and a battery plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat. According to the sources, the Second battery plant in Hansalpur will be made on land beside the passenger vehicle manufacturing plant of Suzuki Motor Corp.

Suzuki plans to invest Rs. 7300 crores in this plant which will be commissioned by the year 2026. As per the MSIL’s Stock exchange filing, Suzuki signed a Mou with the Gujarat govt to invest Rs. 10,440 crores in Gujarat for producing battery-operated vehicles and batteries. This project is the outcome of that deal.

Up until now, Suzuki has invested more than 12 thousand crores in Gujarat. Currently, MSIL manufactures Baleno, Swift, and Swift Dzire at its Hansalpur Plant and it also rolled out its 2 millionth vehicle from this plant.

According to the official details of PM Modi’s this particular engagement shared by the Press Information Bureau: Prime Minister will address a programme marking the commemoration of 40 years of Suzuki in India, being held at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar. During the event, Prime Minister will lay the foundation stones of two key projects of the Suzuki group in India – the Suzuki Motor Gujarat Electric Vehicle Battery Manufacturing Facility at Hansalpur, Gujarat and Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming vehicle manufacturing facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana.

The Suzuki Motor Gujarat Electric Vehicle Battery Manufacturing Facility at Hansalpur, Gujarat will be set-up with an investment of around Rs. 7,300 crores to manufacture Advance Chemistry Cell batteries for Electric Vehicles. The vehicle manufacturing facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana will have the potential to manufacture 10 lakh passenger vehicles per year, making it one of the largest passenger vehicle manufacturing facilities at a single site in the world. The first phase of the project will be set up with an investment of over Rs. 11,000 crores.
