10% of Gujarat population holds passport : External Affairs Ministry

Ahmedabad: About 10% of Gujarat residents hold passports, the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, informed the parliament yesterday. With a total of 6761930 passports issued, every 1 out of 10 people holds a passport in the state.

According to the Ministry data, Gujarat is at sixth position in no. of the passport holder behind only Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.

Naba Kumar Sarania, the independent MP from Kokrajhar in Assam had sought the details about passports issued and renewed. The data tabled in the reply to her question showed that the Government of India has issued passports to about 68 lakhs people from Gujarat. There are also 5.41 lakh people who have not renewed their passports.
