Gujarat among top 5 Banana producing states in India: Union Govt

Gandhinagar: Gujarat is one of the top five states to produce bananas in the country, as stated by the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar, in response to a question from a Rajya Sabha member during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament.
According to the statistics published by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for the year 2021, India was the largest producer of bananas in the world, accounting for 26.5% of global production.
Based on the final estimates for the year 2021-22, Gujarat was the 4th largest producer of bananas in the country, with an estimated production of 39.71 lakh tonnes, which accounted for 11.38% of the country’s total banana production during the year.
