Water level comes down a little at Golden bridge; Rail movement resumes at slow speed
September 18, 2023
Bharuch: Some trains have started moving on the Narmada River bridge which is better known as the Silver Bridge between Bharuch and Ankleshwar on the Mumbai – Delhi main railway line. This has become possible because of a decrease in water level from above 40 ft to around 38.52 ft at noon today(37.93 at 1 pm). The level is still much higher than the 24 ft danger mark. However, due to a decrease in outflow at Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam, the level is likely to come down gradually depending on the sea conditions.
The warning level at Golden Bridge is 6.705 m while the danger level is 7.315 m. The highest flood level is 12.645 m which was attained on 6 September 1970. The present water level at 12 p.m. has decreased to 11.7 m. It was at 40.55 ft or 12.35 meters last evening, following which the railway movement on the Ahmedabad – Mumbai, Delhi – Mumbai main railway route was stopped. The government has also shut the Narmada Maiyya railway bridge on the river for vehicles since last evening.
Western Railway stated that rail traffic was suspended from 22.50 pm on 17.9.2023 due to Narmada water flowing above the danger mark on bridge number 502 between Bharuch and Ankleshwar of Vadodara division of Western Railway. Most of the trains are either canceled or diverted.
