Bullet Train Project: Concourse-level slab construction completed at Kalupur

Ahmedabad: The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) announced on Tuesday the successful completion of the concourse-level slab construction for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai high-speed train station at Kalupur here.

The 435-meter long concourse slab for the bullet train station has been finished, according to the NHSRCL. The station’s design is inspired by the city’s rich cultural and historical heritage, with a roof resembling a canvas filled with kites and a facade pattern influenced by the intricate lattice work of the Sidi Sayed mosque’s jaali window.

This station, featuring two platforms, will be situated at an elevation of 33.73 meters above ground and will span across 38,000 square meters, directly above existing platform numbers 10, 11, and 12 of the Western Railway station.

To ensure a seamless connection between the bullet train station and other modes of transportation, an integrated passenger transit building is planned on the eastern side of the existing railway station, as outlined by the NHSRCL. It was recently announced that all the necessary land for the Gujarat segment of this project has been acquired, with the last piece of land in Gujarat secured in Kathore village in the Surat district in September.

The government aims to inaugurate the high-speed train service in the Surat-Bilimora stretch in southern Gujarat by 2026. This project, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) through a soft loan of Rs 88,000 crore, was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in September 2017.
