Sanghavi summons Ahmedabad Police Commissioner over Security Breach at Motera Stadium

Gandhinagar: Minister of State for Home Affairs, Harsh Sanghavi, today called a meeting here in the state capital regarding the significant security breach that took place on Sunday during the World Cup final in Narendra Modi Stadium when a spectator from Australia ran onto the field and touched Virat Kohli.

The MoS Home summoned the Police Commissioner of Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar along with the Joint Commissioner (Crime) and DCP Zone 2. The MoS has asked the Ahmedabad police to submit a thorough report of the incident that occurred during the India versus Australia match.

The incident became an embarrassing situation for the Ahmedabad police, as they had claimed airtight security on the ground. Still, the individual breached it and ran onto the field while India was batting against Australia. This all unfolded while many dignitaries, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, were in attendance.

According to a police complaint filed by Chandkheda Police, the accused is identified as Ven Johnson from Sydney, Australia. Around 3:30 p.m., he attempted to jump the net. When the staff tried to stop him, he pushed them aside and jumped the net to enter the ground. He reached the batting pitch of the stadium, where he was apprehended and brought outside the ground. Upon questioning, he revealed his name as Wen Johnson from Sydney, Australia, and stated his age as 24. When asked why he entered the field, he claimed to be a fan of Virat Kohli, who was batting at that time on the pitch.

Johnson has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 332 and 447. DeshGujarat
