MGVCL’s Smart Meter App shut for maintenance to fix billing issue
June 14, 2024
Vadodara: The smart meter application of the Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited (MGVCL) has been closed for maintenance to fix a technical fault that displayed incorrect bill amounts. The downtime began on Wednesday night and will last for two to three days. During this period, users can only see their units consumed but not the bill amount.
The decision to close the application follows growing controversy over smart meters. Recently, a technical glitch resulted in one consumer seeing an incorrect balance of Rs 1,03,679 instead of the real bill of Rs 3,338.11. To address this and other potential issues, the electricity company has suspended the application, preventing users from capturing screenshots of their bills.
Consumers are concerned about how to recharge their balances while the app is down. MGVCL has assured consumers that no connections will be cut during this period. After the maintenance is completed, physical bills will be provided, showing the correct amount based on actual consumption and current tariff rates.
Tejas Parmar, MD of MGVCL, stated that the maintenance and upgrade of the smart meter app have started due to a technical fault causing incorrect billing. The app will be operational again in two to three days. DeshGujarat
