Narmada dam water to be supplied to 952 ponds of North Gujarat, 40 reservoirs in Saurashtra

Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat today informed it has decided to supply surplus Narmada water in Sardar Sarovar dam to as many as 952 ponds of North Gujarat region’s Banaskantha, Patan, Mahesana and Sabarkantha districts through 13 pipelines. While presently, the pipelines are carrying 1,000 cusecs water, the count will increase to 2400 cusecs eventually in coming days.
Gujarat government has also decided to supply Narmada water to 40 reservoirs in Saurasthra region’s Suredranagar, Rajkot, Morbi, Botad, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar and Amreli districts through four pipelines of SAUNI scheme that are now carrying 1,300 cusecs water by lifting. It will be scaled upto 2000 cusecs. The government has planned to fill 600 checkdams/ponds of this region if rain is delayed. Presently the drinking water supply is given priority and those reservoirs that are reserved for drinking water needs are prioritized for water supply. DeshGujarat
