Kutch: The Gujarat government has dispatched specialist doctors and 50 medical teams to seven villages across two talukas in Kutch district due to an undiagnosed fever that has resulted in 13 deaths within a week, a state minister announced on Wednesday.
Health Minister Rushikesh Patel held a review meeting in Bhuj town to discuss the measures being implemented in the area. After the meeting, Patel told the media that 45 teams are conducting door-to-door screening, and so far, 2,234 people have been screened, with 48 new fever cases identified. These individuals are receiving treatment, and their samples have been sent to NIV Pune.
The seven villages of Lakhpat and Abdasa have been affected, with 13 individuals, including four children, losing their lives due to the undiagnosed fever between September 3 and 10.
“We have prepared 100 isolation beds, 30 ventilators, and BiPAP machines at Adani GK General Hospital to address any emergency situation. A cardiologist and two specialist physicians, along with 50 medical teams led by MBBS doctors, have been assigned to the region for early diagnosis and treatment,” the minister stated.
Additionally, 108 emergency service ambulances have been deployed in the affected area to transport patients to the designated hospital, which is equipped for treatment, he added.
“This fever can become severe within 5 to 7 days. It appears that the deceased delayed seeking medical help,” he noted.
Patel, who also visited the victims and met with their families, stated, “The situation is under control because, unlike Covid-19, there is no outbreak. I urge people not to ignore symptoms and consult doctors rather than staying at home.” DeshGujarat
