Surat: The fire department on Sunday night rescued 11 people who got trapped in an elevator due to a power failure in a building in the Adajan area of the city.
The incident occurred at the Royal Trade Centre, which houses Levvel 5 Restaurant on its 5th floor. Around 11 people were coming down to the ground floor after having dinner at the restaurant when the elevator suddenly stopped at the first floor due to a power outage. A total of 11 individuals, including small children as young as 1 year old, were stuck in the lift for around 25 minutes. However, the Adajan Fire Department was informed, and they arrived promptly at the scene and opened the gates of the elevator, safely rescuing everyone.
Fire officer Sampat Bumesh said that a call was received from the hotel that some people were trapped in the lift. ‘Our team reached the spot within minutes and found the lift stopped at the first floor. We immediately opened the lift door and got everyone out. Women and small children were terrified. Parents, especially those with very young children, were naturally frightened. However, we quickly took them out without losing a single moment.’ DeshGujarat
