Ahmedabad: The driver of a trailer truck involved in the death of Sub-Inspector J.M. Pathan of the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) at a makeshift checkpoint in Kathada village in Dasada, on November 5, was arrested in Rajasthan on Wednesday.
The accused, Mangaram, was apprehended after a combination of technical analysis and human intelligence led authorities to Sindhri village in Rajasthan’s Balotra district, according to a statement from the Ahmedabad rural police. He was brought to Ahmedabad for further questioning. The trailer involved in the incident had continued its journey to West Bengal, where another driver had taken over after a shift change. An LCB team has been sent to West Bengal to recover the trailer for investigation.
A senior officer from Ahmedabad district explained that Pathan had set up a roadblock using an SUV to intercept a suspected liquor-laden vehicle. To strengthen the blockade, police often flag down trucks to use as barriers. Pathan attempted to stop the trailer truck, but the driver, possibly unaware of the barricade, struck Pathan and another officer.
The officer clarified that the truck driver was not involved in liquor smuggling. The truck, which was transporting white cement from Ahmedabad to Kolkata, was unrelated to the smuggling operation. DeshGujarat
