Gandhidham: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Gandhidham today nabbed a Customs Department staffer red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹9,850 near the Sagar Sena Hanuman Mandir Road, Kandla Port. The accused, Jignesh Keshavji Baliya (33), was posted as Head Havildar (Class-3) at the Customs Department at Kandla Port.
According to the ACB, the complainant’s company handles the customs clearance of goods arriving at and departing from Kandla Port and arranges for the transportation of goods within and outside the port premises via trucks. The complainant, being the operations in-charge, was overseeing this process. The accused, Jignesh Baliya, allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹50 per truck for allowing the complainant’s company’s trucks to exit through the port gate. As a total of 197 truck trips were carried out in the last two months, the accused demanded a bribe of ₹9,850.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached ACB Gandhidham. Today, a trap was laid, during which the accused was caught red-handed accepting the bribe amount of ₹9,850 after engaging in a deliberate conversation with the complainant. DeshGujarat
