Gujarat Board introduces Bhagavad Gita chapters in Class 9–12 syllabus

Ahmedabad: Following the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 guidelines, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has introduced value-oriented chapters from the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita into the first language textbooks for Classes 9 to 12.

As part of this initiative, two chapters have been added to Gujarati, Hindi, English, and Urdu first language textbooks. This step aligns with the state government’s efforts to integrate traditional Indian knowledge systems into mainstream education and to promote moral and ethical values among students.

Last year, the government had already launched a supplementary Bhagavad Gita textbook for Classes 6 to 8 to foster awareness of India’s ancient and diverse cultural heritage.

Now, in the Hindi curriculum, the new additions include Margdarshika Gita and Bhagavad Gita Aur Main for Class 9; Samarpan and Desh Bhakti Ki Sanjeevani for Class 10; Param Sukh Ke Sopan and Triveni for Class 11; and Vaishvik Granth — Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and Bharatiya Shashwat Moolya Aur Gita for Class 12.

The official further noted that all updated study material, along with a revised exam blueprint and syllabus plan, has been distributed to schools. Exams for Classes 9 to 12 will now feature 3–4 mark questions based on the newly introduced chapters. DeshGujarat
