On September 3rd Sept, 2012, NRI Community under leadership of Nikul Patel, Harshad Patel and Mitesh Patel organized event At Gujarati Samaj community Hall in Flushing NY to welcome and honor Gujarat’s powerful Congress Party leader and Gujarat State Assembly Member Shri Shaktisingh Gohil and Gujarat Congress party’s Vice President and former MP Shri Jivabhai Patel and Urmila Patel wife of former CM of Gujarat Late Chimanbhai Patel.

On this occasion New York State Senator Toby Stavisky, supporter of Indian community was also present to welcome and honor with citation from NewYork state senate. Senator Toby Stavisky was also instrumental for declaring Gujarat Day on occasion of 50th Anniversary Of Gujarat State. Also Senator Toby Stavisky mention the Contribution of Indian American Community – Own more than 70,000 Convenience Store in USA and more than 12,000 Hotels in United States. Also Mr. Chauhan urge both the leaders to have more strategic partnership between New York State and Gujarat State Partnership.

South Asian Community Leader Mr. Dilip Chauhan Introduce New York Senator Toby Stavisky, and also spoke how Indian American Community specially Gujarati Community is contributing to American Economy.

The event was very successful. Even though it was holiday long weekend and event organized in very short notice of only 2 days more than 1200 people came to participate.

Leaders from various organizations were present to welcome & honor Hon. Shaktisingh Gohil , Jivabhai Patel and Urmilaben Patel.

Mr. R.D.Patel Chairman of Gujarati Samaj – in his welcome speech spoke very eloquently and praised Shaktisinhji for his accomplishments. Also various very respected leaders of Indian Community like Padma Bhusan and Ellis Island Awardee Dr. Sudhir Parikh, Chairman Of NFIA Mr. Ramesh Patel, Dr. Malhotra from INOC, Ellis Island of Medal Awardee Mrs. Pam Kwatra -INOC NJ, President Of Gujarati Samaj Mr. Manikant Patel, Mr.Atma Singh from Indian Congress, Mr. George Abraham from INOC –I, Chairman of FIA Mr. Ramesh Patel also spoke and honored Shaktisinghji, Jivabhai Patel and Mrs. Urmilaben Patel.

Irrespective of party affiliations many people from New Jersey and Connecticut were present in the event that shows “KARISHMA” of Shaktisinh Gohil and Jivabhai Patel.

During one hour impressive speech of Gujarat Party President Shri Shaktisinh Gohil mention Progress of India, NRI’s Issue like problem at Arrival of Airport. Also he answered most of the question raised by Audience with full confidence and satisfied all the attendees.

He in his praised India’s progress and he pointed out India was first country to give full right of voting to every adult citizen of India and it took 150 years in USA to have such rights to every adult.

He ( Shaktisinh Gohil ) humorously said that in India – Pati ( Husband ) is the head and is male in family But in India Rastrapati (President) suppose to be male according to word pati, But Indian Congress Party President Mrs Sonia Gandhi chose female as pati of nation (Rastrapati) – Smt. Pratibha Patil.

Gujarat Congress Party President also mentioned that if Congress is elected to power, the Congress party will give 100 yard plot to common class women applicants in rural area. Also an easy installment loan will be provided upto Rs 1 lakh to build 30 square meter house on that plot.

According to 2011 census, there are 18,80,000 homeless people in Gujarat. There are 19,19,792 kachcha brick houses, 30,959 wooden houses. 31 lakh families live in single room houses. 3,34,479 families live in rented house. When parents and their adult children live together, they need house.

Shri Jivabhai Patel also gave brief speech of 30 minutes and highlighted the work done by Central Government and many more issue NRI’s facing in their trip to India, also Assure Audience come forward with their problem and he will try his level best to discuss the issue of NRI with Centeral Minister Vyala Ravi.
