Discussion on whether to declare Rani Ki Vav (Ranki Vav or Queens Stepwell) a world heritage monument or not will take place perhaps tomorrow.
In response to query sent on email by DeshGujarat, UNESCO’s S.Williams from Doha said: “The site(Ranki Vav) will be discussed at this meeting perhaps tomorrow.”
“The advisory bodies to the Committee have recommended it for inscription,” he added.
It should be mentioned here that the World Heritage Committee meet in Doha from 15 to 25 June is in process to consider the inscription of 40 sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Sites to be considered include five that are extensions to sites already on the List. On Saturday the committee inscribed sites in Iraq, Japan, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Latin America, Germany and Palestine on the world heritage list.
Two sites nominated from India, decision on which is yet to arrive are; Great Himalayan National Park in Natural sites category and Rani Ki Vav at Patan in Cultural sites category.
