Ahmedabad
Congress MLA Gyasuddin Sheikh who represents Dariyapur assembly seat in Ahmedabad has written a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi demanding proper representation of Muslims in Gujarat Congress organization.
Sheikh said that top body of state party organization which was declared recently had only one Muslim face. He said even considering the proportion of population of Muslims in Gujarat, there should be three to four Muslims in top level posts.
Sheikh alleged that Gujarat Congress is moving towards soft Hindutva. He said Congress is not compulsion of Muslims.
“Muslims have supported Congress post-independence on every occasion. The party for short term gain is putting aside its ideals and adopting soft Hindutva in Gujarat, but party leaders should understand that by putting your principals aside, you can’t achieve your goals. Most of the party MLAs elected to Gujarat assembly are from rural areas of Gujarat. Party should actually focus on increasing its presence in urban class and particularly in middle class. Neglecting Muslims is no solution. If state party leaders think that Congress tastes defeat in Gujarat due because Muslims are there, it’s wrong belief, ” Sheikh said.
He said he received number of calls from Muslims from across the state complaining about neglect of Muslims in new declared party organization. Sheikh said he had full faith in Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Ahmed Patel that they would address the issue and see that Muslims get proper representation in party organization.
Sheikh said recently Gujarat Congress declared three person committee for each of 8 municipal corporations across Gujarat. Total 24 names were announced, but not a single among them was Muslim, which is unfair.
