A 30-year-old man here today cut his wrist during an event of Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, police said.
“Momaiji Thakor(30), a resident of Bavla town in Ahmedabad district cut his wrist with a blade during Gujarat chief Minister Anandiben Patel’s function at Sabarmati river front area here,” Inspector R I Desai of Navrangpura Police station told PTI.
“Thakor had some long-pending issues of his ancestral land in Vedh village of Sami tehsil of Patan district. He had also filed a case in court in the land dispute, but according to him his advocate was not pursuing the case properly and court did not take interest,” Desai said.
“Thakor has also stated before the police that he had filed many applications in Gujarat government but all of them are pending that led him to take such an extreme step,” the officer said.
The incident took place when Chief Minister Anandiben Patel was at Sabarmati river front to inaugurate a ground and also to dedicate 4,293 houses under Economical Weaker Section (EWS) scheme, Desai said.
Thakor rushed in direction of the stage where Patel and others were sitting, while Deputy Mayor of the city Bipin Sikka was expressing vote of thanks after the completion of the event, the officer said, adding, he suddenly took out a blade from his pocket and cut his wrist.
Police said the event was stopped and the staff of the ambulance that was assigned to Chief Minister’s convoy rushed Thakor to provide first-aid treatment.
Later, he was taken to the city civil hospital and his condition is out of danger, they added.
