Gujarat and Maharashtra witnessed highest custodial deaths in last five years

New Delhi: Gujarat and Maharashtra were the two states with the highest number of deaths in police custody in the last five years, as stated by the Union government in the Lok Sabha today. According to Union Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, a total of 687 people died in police custody across the country from April 1, 2018, to March 31, 2023.
