Justice Akil Qureshi orders two days CBI custody for Amit Shah
Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 6 August, 2010

Gujarat High Court Justice Akil Qureshi sent former Gujarat minister of state for Home Shri Amit Shah on two day custody of Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI).
CBI special court in Ahmedabad had earlier denied Shah’s custodial remand. However CBI challenged lower court decision and moved Gujarat High Court against it. Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Mukhopadhyay handed over this case to Justice Akil Qureshi, who delivered judgment in CBI’s favor. Shah, an accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, will be grilled by the CBI on August 7 and 8.
It should be mentioned that CBI could interrogate Shah when he was arrested, but CBI didn’t do that and demanded judicial custody instead. Then CBI was permitted to question Shah in Judicial custody for three days, but according to Shah’s advocate, CBI didn’t utilize full time. Shah’s advocate had also raised a point that as Shah was already chargesheeted he couldn’t be taken to custodial remand. There are no direct evidences against Shah as per his advocate.
Shah had demanded video recording of his judicial remand, and such recording was carried out by CBI. However in custodial remand, there will be no videography.
Shah remained silent, or said “Yes”, “No”, “I can’t remember” during judicial remand most of the time as alleged by the CBI. However, in custodial remand, CBI will try to compel him to tell more. It is believed that, through Shah, the CBI wants to frame Narendra Modi in this case. Shah’s custody is therefore important for CBI.
