Osam hill to be developed as tourist attraction

Osam hill near Patanvav has been identified by Gujarat government as a tourist place. Tourism Minister Saurabh Patel on Monday visited the place and declared state government’s wish to develop Osam hill as a place of tourist attraction.

Lesser know Osam hill is located on north west side of Girnar hill. It is beleived that Osam was located next to ancient route to Dwarka. Gujarat’s one of the most succesfull kings Patan based Siddharaj Jaysinh’s mother Minaldevi built Pataneshwar mahadev mandir and stepwell here during her pilgrimage to Somnath. The place then became famous as Patanvav.

Dhank’s ruler Patansinh Vala and Junagadh’s Ra were regular visitors to this place. Present version of Patanvav was established by Vagha Darji in samvat 1802. Patanvav was border village of former Gondal state. Gondal’s then ruler Shri Bhagwatsinh had built a security post with telephone at Patanvav.

Locals believe that Mahabharat’s Hidimba and her brother Hidamb were living in Hidamb forest located around Osam hill.
