BJP President Rajnath Singh’s Ahmedabad statement
Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 16 October, 2008
Following is BJP’s national president Rajnath Singh’s statement that was circulated to the press while his visit to Ahmedabad.
The biggest threat facing the country today is jihadi terrorism. The UPA Government’s evasive response and the lack of strong will to counter the challenges posed by different terrorist groups have created an atmosphere of insecurity and fear in the country.
Terrorism is a global issue and countries which became notorious for supporting terrorism in the name of jihad are also now feeling its heat. According to media reports, Pakistan has started the process of mobilizing public opinion against terrorism and trying to build a national consensus over the issue. The Punjab Government in Pakistan has even convened a special Assembly session to discuss terrorism.
On the other hand the UPA Government in India, it seems, is suffering from acute psychological disorder which does not allow it to think beyond its vote bank considerations.
The vote bank considerations of the UPA were again evident in the recent National Integration Council meeting held at New Delhi where it tried its best to keep terrorism out of the official agenda. It shows that the Centre is not only casual in its approach but also evading from its responsibility to build a national consensus on major issues like terrorism.
Recently the Veerappa Moily Committee highlighted the need of tougher anti-terror laws but the Government is yet to take any concrete steps in this regard.
The UPA Government has committed the blunder of identifying terrorists by their religions. Its fight against terrorism is hampered by this myopic vision.
The BJP believes a terrorist has no religion and he should be treated as a traitor. If the Government is serious in waging a war against terror then it should have good coordination with the States and it needs to come up with a joint strategy on each and every level of policing and investigation.
BJP vows to revive the sagging Indian economy
The UPA Government has been in power at the Centre for nearly 42 months. During this period, the UPA has not only pushed the country towards stagflation but also reversed all the gains registered by the BJP led Government. Inflationary pressures on the Indian economy are high and it brought the industrial sector under so much pressure that the industrial growth rate of the country has collapsed to 1.3 percent.
Prices of essential commodities have not come down in spite of repeated assurances by the Finance Minister and the Prime Minister. The budget deficit of the country has already reached 36.5 billion US Dollars, a key indicator of the UPA’s gross economic mismanagement.
On the one hand the UPA Government is committing blunders on the economic front and on the other hand BJP led Governments are scripting new success stories by displaying unwavering commitment to create an atmosphere conducive for investment, industralisation and equitable growth. The success of Shri Narendra Modi led BJP Government in bringing the manufacturing unit of Nano car (Tata Motors) from West Bengal to Gujarat is a shining example to prove this point.
Gujarat has become a model state for development to rest of the country as it has registered impressive growth rates in almost all sectors. Even the agriculture sector in Gujarat has registered double digit growth in comparison to the paltry 1.8 percent growth in agriculture at the national level.
The BJP would like to assure the country that we will not only pull the Indian economy out of this vicious bearish cycle but also infuse a new life in the entire system which is at risk due to the disoriented and confused economic policies of the UPA Government.
UPAs cruel joke on people’s faith
On the one hand UPA is allowing terrorists to thrive in the country and on the other hand it is also practicing cultural terrorism by targeting the cultural beliefs and icons of the majority of Indians.
It is shocking to see the Government has grossly misinterpreted the Kamban Ramayana and told the Court that Lord Rama himself had destroyed the Ram Sethu hence it could not be worshipped.
It is not the first time that the UPA Government has insulted people’s belief. On the earlier occasion it had deposed before the Supreme Court that Lord Rama was a fictitious character. It had generated so much outrage and anger among the Hindus that the Government was forced to withdraw its affidavit.
BJP strongly condemns such ludicrous submissions made by the UPA Government in the Court and blames the Government for playing with the religious sentiments of more than a billion people in the world.
BJP is front runner in forthcoming Assembly elections
The BJP has sounded the bugle for the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and Mizoram. We are the frontrunner in the first four States and expected to do better in Mizoram.
We will contest these elections on the plank of good governance and failures of the Congress led UPA Government at the Centre. I firmly believe that the BJP is a natural and obvious choice for voters when they vote on the issue of good governance. The Congress’ track record is miserable on the front of development and other aspects pertaining to good governance. I have no hesitation in saying that the BJP will not only emerge victorious in these Assembly elections but also the General Elections scheduled next year.
