It’s not easy to get a venue for Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Modi’s Gujarat
Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 18 January, 2009

The Congress party in Gujarat is finding it difficult to manage one lakh capacity ground in or around Ahmedabad to organize Rahul Gandhi’s rally which is now scheduled at 30th of January, 2009.
The Congress party in Gujarat has planned to organize a grand-rally on the occasion of completion of it’s ‘Abhay Udan’ campaign in presence of Rahul Gandhi. Earlier a rally was planned on 26th of January but later this date had to be canceled. Insiders say that the party couldn’t manage to hire any single ground in or around Ahmedabad. Now a new date 30th January has been fixed and Rahul Gandhi has also reportedly given his consent for this date but party’s state unit is still facing the same problem of not getting a ground to organize a rally.
According to sources, Gujarat Congress initially tried to get Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel Stadium but the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation turned down this proposal even after repeated attempts and rounds of discussion. Congress then tried to get couple of large grounds associated with Gandhian institutes but they too have turned down the proposals reportedly due to reasons related to their grants that come from the state government and political nature of the proposed events.
“In Narendra Modi’s Gujarat no body wants to take a risk to allow usage of their ground for Congress rally fearing possible adverse reactions from the state government and in particular from strong man Narendra Modi,” Sources told DeshGujarat.
