In Gujarat, Congress TV ads scream, BJP ads bank on Modi,LKA
Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 23 April, 2009

Gujarat Congress has released it’s election advertisements on Gujarati T.V. channels this week.

The advertisement is neither entertaining, nor amusing and surely not motivating, but painful for eyes and ears both.

The advertisement starts with a painful, loud, unbearable and unpleasant scream of a young widow who cries and breaks her bangles on the floor, seeing her husband’s dead body. Her scarf(dupatta) goes up in the air to fall down at somebody’s doorstep and converts into a red carpet through special effect. Few suited booted investors walk with suitcases in their hand on that dupatta turned red carpet. Then comes a group of common people who look upwards to say, they would vote only for Congress that serves common people and not few industrialists.

Congress has released one more TV advertisement that shows a guard with turban on his head and stick in hand, every time saying, “everything is alright”, overlooking incidents such as Patan’s gang rape, diamond worker’s suicide, Asaram ashram students’ deaths etc. Then two gentleman talks with each other that they would vote for Congress seeing such a state of affair.

None of the Congress leaders has been shown in Gujarat Congress advertisements including Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

In 2002 and 2007, Gujarat assembly elections, Gujarat Congress had released Gujarati advertisements on a similar track of highlighting suicides and killings.

The BJP has also released several Gujarati TV advertisements. All advertisements have similar format. Indian map comes first with lotus and a song, “Vande Mataram.” Then comes either Advani(in some advertisements) or Narendra Modi’s small part of speech taken from their public rallies in Gujarat. On the end note, comes a picture of Advani with slogan written on a side “Majbut Neta, Nirnayak Sarkar”. Thus, the BJP advertisement has no drama, no actors, no hard work. It banks upon oratory power of Narendra Modi and sometime Advani.
