Villagers kill leopard in Gujarat
Navsari, 3 May, 2009
Villagers in Navsari district of Gujarat killed a leopard, which attacked and injured at least two people including a police man today morning.
The incident occurred Sunday in Khatalwad village, near Navsari town, where the villagers attacked the wild cat with raining bamboo sticks and iron rods after the leopard attacked and injured two persons. When people were beating leopard, it was already caught in a net and there was no visible reason to attack it. Forest department officials and Police men also were present on the spot but they didn’t do anything. The leopard succumbed to injuries and died on the spot.
The villagers were too furious and forest officials present on the occasion were unable to prevent them from attacking the leopard.
It is presumed that lack of water and prey drove the leopard into the village from the adjoining jungles that have presence of leopards.
