Cheetahs in Gujarat’s Junagadh zoo will be available for public view only after current extreme heat wave situation ends and temperature comes down.
Junagadh’s Sakkarbag zoo is India’s only zoo that possesses Cheetahs. When on 30th March, two pair of cheetahs arrived here from Singapore, it was announced that they would be put for public view within 15 days. But now, even after over a month period has passed, Cheetahs are still kept in a separate private compartment.
According to sources, Cheetahs are kept in private under air cooling system due to extreme heat wave condition. They are continuously supervised under close circuit cameras. R.O. plant water is being served to them. Veterinary doctors visit to examine them on regular intervals.
Cheetahs were last seen in India in 1946. After then, around 30 cheetahs were brought to India for breeding purpose but they all couldn’t survive long here.
Junagadh’s Sakkarbag zoo has got two pairs of cheetahs in exchange to three Asiatic lions that were earlier sent to Singapore zoo.
