Gujarat has total 26 Lok Sabha seats. BJP had won 14 seats in 2004 Lok Sabha elections, six less than 1999 elections.
Last week BJP’s General Secretary Arun Jaitley claimed BJP would win 80 per cent seats in Gujarat, according to which BJP should win 20 or 21 seats this election. Right columnist Swapan Dasgupta has estimated 19 to 21 Gujarat seats for BJP in his blog. DNA daily’s latest post poll survey has predicted 18 seats for BJP in Gujarat. Times of India has predicted 19. According to December, 2007 Gujarat assembly election figures, BJP should easily win 21 seats. Gujarat Congress Chief Siddharth Patel however claims to win at least 15 seats in the state, leaving 11 for BJP.

Narendra Modi:Are you asking about Gujarat? In Gujarat BJP will make a clean sweep. Clean sweep.
Sanjay Pugalia:Number?
Narendra Modi:I don’t believe in number game, but BJP will make a clean sweep.
Sanjay Pugalia:When you were on your peak, you got 14 seats in 2004.
Narendra Modi:No. I don’t think I was on a peak then.
Sanjay Pugalia:You think, you would get 20 seats out of 26 in Gujarat?
Narendra Modi:I said earlier that political pundits keep trust on what I say that I have no habit of (just) making claims. I keep my accounts clear.
